Almost all of the extensive inventory of fine gold and gemstone jewelry is designed and created in our own workshop. When away from the jeweler's bench, Norman travels in search of the beautiful gems he has known and loved for so many years. His careful purchases become the inspiration for the creations shown in the store and for specially made custom designs. In 1987 fine jeweler Henry Weber became the principal craftsman at the bench. His creations continue to garner praise and satisfaction.
moving to California, Norman enrolled in the courses of study offered by
the Gemological Institute of America. His love of
gems and many years
of practical experience culminated in the achievement of
Graduate Gemologis, in 1975.
Also In 1975, Norman Mahan Jewelers was admitted into the membership
of the American Gem Society, an organization that requires
knowledge and the highest ethical standards. Norman Mahan receivedjoying retirement
the additional title of Certified Gemologist from the American Gem Society
and gathered the gem laboratory equipment necessary to meet the Society's requirements
for the designation of Accredited Gem Laboratory. An AGS title is an
annual appointment and must be re-won by annual examination.
Norman Mahan Jewelers opened in California's beautiful Marin County.
In 1980, the Mahan's daughter, Nancy, became the youngest person
to ever become a Graduate Gemologist.
After 34 years in Larkspur, Norman Mahan Jewelers relocated to their beautiful new location in Strawberry Village, Marin’s “buy local” shopping haven.
